The return of the Naked Chicken Chalupa to Taco Bell menus came with a wrinkle: In additional to the traditional Naked Chicken Chalupa variant, Taco Bell would also now sell a new, “Wilder” form of the fried-chicken taco.

In this space, I noted the pinkish-orange hue of the new Wild sauce— described as “never-before-seen” in official Taco Bell material — and how it closely resembled Lava sauce, one of the great Taco Bell sauces of yesteryear. This week, I was able to sample a Wilder Naked Chicken Chalupa and procure a ramekin of straight, uncut Wild Sauce as a side order."
