Taco Bell staff makes tough birthday special for Lehi family

"For many people, March 14 or Pi Day is a day to eat pie in honor of the mathematical symbol, but for the Steele family in Lehi, it is Taco Bell Day — a day that was made even more special this year because of the actions of a stranger.

“For us, we have Mexican Pizza pie and Baja Mountain Dew Blast,” said LaRell Steele. “It’s just a different version of Pi Day.”

March 14 marks the birthday of Steele’s husband, Kerry, who died in 2013 at the age of 44. The first year after his death, the family decided to remember him each year on his birthday with a family trip to Taco Bell to enjoy what was one of his favorite meals — a Mexican Pizza and a Baja Mountain Dew Blast.

“The first year we just went as a family,” Steele said. The couple had four kids who were between the ages of 11 and 20 when their father died. “The next year more people came, and some family couldn’t come so they sent us pictures of them enjoying Taco Bell to remember him.”"
